Speaking on this issue, the Board’s Head of Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, shared this piece of information with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Debunking the rumor that JAMB will deduct marks from candidates who were caught to be cheating, Dr. Fabian Benjamin explained that it was not true that JAMB is in the process of deducting some marks from candidates who are confirmed to participate in any form of examination malpractice.
Rather than Mark deduction, once the UTME Board has established evidence of any form of examination malpractice against any candidate, it will outrightly cancel the result of such candidate rather than deduct marks.
Here is how Dr. Fabian Benjamin disclosed this interesting news:
“Once the JAMB board establishes any proven case of infraction or examination malpractice in any center, such center will be shut down and the entire results of candidates who wrote in that center from the commencement of the examination, which was April 11 to the end will automatically be canceled.
However, this does not mean affected candidates will need to wait for JAMB 2020, rather, such affected candidates will immediately be rescheduled for the examination in another center as was the case in some centers in Abia State”.
The board’s Head of Media and Information further went on to disclose that the Board made several arrests of persons caught trying to undermine the integrity of the examination and process while it lasted between April 11th – 17th April, just like it shut down centers that fell short of standards set by the board.
Praising his boss, Benjamin disclosed that the JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has zero tolerance for any form of corruption, including examination malpractice.
